Kasper Sandal defends his PhD thesis Design Optimization of Jacket Structures for Mass Production at DTU Wind Energy on 6 October 2017.
The PhD project is part of the ABYSS Work Package on Optimal Design of Bottom-Fixed Structures and has resulted in new methods capable of performing conceptual optimal design of jackets in minutes.
The thesis contains four manuscripts regarding design optimization of jackets and foundations, and a technical manual for the software JADOP (Jacket Design Optimization).
Kasper has in his PhD collaborated with ABYSS partners from DTU Wind, DTU Civil Engineering, University of Aalborg (AAU), and Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). Key contributions in the thesis are:
-
A methodology for performing conceptual optimal design of jackets in only a few minutes on a standard laptop.
-
Validation and investigation of the three main approaches to fatigue-constrained jacket optimization.
-
Integration of foundation design into the optimal design problem for jacket design.
-
Extension of the design optimization to consider discrete design variables.
-
A software package (JADOP) which includes all of the above.
The defense is open to the public, and can also be streamed online. More information below.
